Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris baseball team finally got to take the field today (Apr. 17), after waiting through two days of postponements in their series with Northwestern.  Once they got between the lines, the Cougars overcame a 6-0 loss in game one to earn the split with a 5-3 win in the capper.

The series was originally planned to be a three game set on Friday and Saturday, but the poor weather recently pushed the games back and shortened it to just two.

Four errors plagued the Cougars (5-12, 4-3 UMAC) in game one, as the Eagles (10-12, 7-4 UMAC) crossed the plate with three unearned runs.  Northwestern did their scoring with two in the third, one in the fourth and the final three in the fifth, doing so on 10 hits.

In the next game, the Cougars quickly ended their scoring drought, plating four runs in the first and never trailing. They would eventually add an insurance run in the sixth after knocking out 10 hits in the game.

Logan Orazem (Mora, Minn.) picked up his second win of the season in the second game, moving his season record to 2-0 in his first start of the year. Orazem pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five hits while striking out three.

Gray (Long Prairie, Minn.) came in in the sixth and threw the final two innings, giving up just two hits and no runs to preserve the win and earn the save.

Lee Arvold (Blaine, Minn.) suffered the loss in the first game, giving up all six runs, but just three earned. He allowed nine hits and struck out three, falling to 1-3.

The Cougars' 10 hits in the second was marked the seventh time on the season where they were in double digits, led by Drew Lundquist (North Branch, Minn.) with four. Dustin Sauter (Morris, Minn.) and Jordan Gegen (Anoka, Minn.) added three, while Ian Olson (Granite Falls, Minn.) had two, as the only four players to hit safely in each game.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday Apr. 19 for a doubleheader in Coon Rapids with North Central at 2:00 p.m. in nonconference action. They then return to UMAC play on Apr. 22 and 23 when they travel to Ashland, Wis. for a three-game series with Northland. The Cougars and LumberJacks will throw the first pitch at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
