Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris women's soccer team snapped out of their two-game losing streak today (Sept. 25), piling up the goals in a 7-1 win over Northland at Cougar Field.

Leah Parker (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the charge with her second career hat trick, and now leads the team with five goals on the season. She scored twice off textbook headers in the first half, and again late in the second off a brilliant feed from Crystal Zastrow (Carlos, Minn.).

Morris (4-4-0, 2-2-0 UMAC) pulls its record even on the season – and in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play – while Northland (1-6-0, 0-4-0) is still searching for their first win of the season.

Taylor Meehan (Alexandria, Minn.) opened the scoring with her third on the year in just the game's second minute, scoring off a beautiful cross from Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.). Bergstrom had a breakaway up the right sideline before passing to a sprinting Meehan for the score.

Bergstrom finished with a career high four assists in the match, the most for any Cougar since Andre Carroll-Franck also did it Oct. 17, 2006.

Christina Mollan (Menomonie, Wis.) also scored her third of the year, getting the eventual game-winner at the 20:02 mark. Rachel Berns (Stillwater, Minn.) and Sarah Timpane (St. Cloud, Minn.) each scored their first of the season to round out the scoring.

The LumberJills were able to avoid the shutout when Ashley Runge scored on a high floater over the out stretched hand of Cougar goalkeeper RiAnne Metz (Bismarck, N.D.) at the 55:23 mark.

Metz finished with three saves in the match, but was largely unchallenged as the Cougar offense controlled play for most of the match.

The Cougars took 23 shots in the match, their second highest total of the season, while allowing 10, but only four on goal, one of their lowest tallies on the year.

After dropping back-to-back one goal games in their previous two contests, the Cougars will take the momentum from today's win on the road for their next four matches as they continue UMAC play.

On Sept. 30 they travel to Bethany Lutheran for a 4:00 p.m. match, and on Oct. 1 they are in New Ulm for a 2:00 p.m. tilt with Martin Luther.
