Box Score

Ashland, Wis. – The Minnesota Morris volleyball team cruised to a three-set win over Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) foe, Northland today (Sept. 25).

The Cougars (9-3, 1-1 UMAC) won by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21, and hit .356 for the match, easily their best day at the net all season. The LumberJills, meanwhile, struggled offensively hitting just .070 on the day.

Kaylie Clark (Garden Plain, Kans.) led the way on offense with 10 kills, while hitting a blazing .588 with no errors in her 17 attempts. She also added 10 digs on the back line for her third double-double of the season.

Alyssa Haugen (Alexandria, Minn.) came off the bench to have her best match of the season with seven kills on just 12 attacks, also without an error to post a .583 hitting percentage.

The Cougars committed a season low eight errors on the attack, with no player having more than two.

Anna Peterson (Moorhead, Minn.) joined Clark with 10 digs, with Natalie Thomas (Champlin, Minn.) posting 21 assists to run the offense.

The LumberJills were able to keep the first set close, and pulled within three after a kill to make it 16-13. They then committed back-to-back errors to start a 9-to-3 Cougar run to close the set.

The Cougars wasted little time in the second set, sprinting out to an 8-3 lead, and never led by less than three.

Despite a .000 hitting mark, the LumberJills put up their best effort in the third set, using five-straight points midway through to take an 11-9 lead. The Cougars answered by taking 11 of the next 14 points to regain control, which included back-to-back serve aces from Hannah Terhaar (Andover) and three consecutive kills from Haugen.

After seven straight on the road, the Cougars get to return home next weekend to the friendly confines of the P.E. Center. On Oct. 30, they kickoff homecoming weekend at UMM, when they host Crown at 7:00 p.m. Then on Oct. 1, before the football team kicks off against Northwestern at 1:00 p.m., the Cougars host the Eagles' volleyball squad at 12:00 p.m.
