Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris volleyball team scored their second straight sweep tonight, making quick work of visiting Crown for a 3-0 win in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

Playing in front of a generous Homecoming crowd, the Cougars (10-4, 2-1 UMAC) had to pull away to win the first set 25-20. After though, they turned up the heat to take the final two sets 25-17 and 25-18 respectively.

The Storm (4-7, 0-3 UMAC) struggled offensively, hitting just .110 for the match with a .053 mixed in for the second set.

Kaylie Clark (Garden Plain, Kans.) led the way with 12 kills, while taking 43 total attacks. It's the seventh time this season she has hit double digits, and the fifth time in the last seven matches. Not far behind was Stephanie Schmiesing (Melrose, Minn.) with 10 kills, while hitting .318, the fifth time she has hit over .300 this season, and the third time in the last four matches.

Emily Auch (Benson) also added seven kills in the match, giving the Cougars three players over the 100 kill mark on the season (107), as she joins Clark (131) and Schmiesing (114).

Natalie Thomas (Champlin, Minn.) continued her impressive senior season, dishing out 33 assists in the three sets. Thomas set the Cougars to a .222 hitting percentage as a team – their fifth best mark of the year – which included a .297 mark in the third set.

Thomas also added 11 digs, one of four Cougars to notch better than 10, on their way to 61 as a team. It marks the second most digs in a match this season, the best for a three-set match, and is better than five matches that went either four or five sets.

Clark led the way with 16 digs on the defensive end, charting her second straight double-double. It is her fourth on the season and the Cougars are 3-1 when she accomplishes the feat. Auch added 15 for the second best mark of her young career, with Brita Humphrey (Minnetonka, Minn.) adding 10.

The Cougars play return to the P.E. Center tomorrow (Oct. 1), hosting Northwestern on Homecoming Saturday at noon. The volleyball match will set the table for the homecoming football game, also between the Cougars and Eagles, set to kick off at 1:00 p.m.
