Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris baseball team split two games today (Apr. 10) against the Presentation Saints. The Saints got the best of the Cougars in the first game 21-10, but in the second game Morris won 3-2.
During the first game of two, it was all offense for both teams as they had combined for 31 runs and 37 hits. Presentation started the offense early as they scored two runs in the first inning. The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead, but it would not last long. In the top of the second for the Saints, they scored four runs of their own. Morris responded again with three runs taking a 7-6 lead into the top of the fourth.
In the fourth and fifth innings, the Saints opened up the game by scoring 13 runs. The Cougar offense did score three runs, but were not able to catch the Saints.
Mike McGill opened the day with an outstanding game, going 4-for-5 with four runs batted in. Five other Cougars had at least one RBI, including
Jordan Gegen who had two.
Eric Terres stole two more bases today, and now has 14 in 16 attempts on the season.
In game two
Jake Johnson pitched another complete game only allowing four hits and two runs in a 3-2 win. This was Johnson's fifth complete game on the season, in only five starts. McGill continued his great day as he had three hits in three at-bats driving in two more runs. All in all, McGill went 7-8 with six RBI in two games today against the Saints.
The Cougars' and Saints' bats cooled down in the second game as they only combined for five runs and 13 hits.
Morris and Presentation are currently tied at 4-5 in the UMAC and both are still in the hunt for qualifying for the UMAC Postseason tournament.
The Cougars will now have a few days off ending a six day, seven game trek for the team. The team will be back in action this weekend as they will travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take the field against Northwestern. Last season, the Eagles were able to take two out of three games from the Cougars. The teams will play one game on Friday, Apr. 13 with the first pitched scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 14 with the games set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
