Morris – The Minnesota Morris baseball team's offense was silenced today (Apr. 17) when they hosted NAIA opponent Mayville State. The Comets beat the Cougars 11 -2 in the first game, and 18-0 in the second game.

William Paine earned the start in game one, allowing six runs on six hits. The Cougars found themselves down early in the first game, in the first inning when Joe Ferreira doubled scoring Phillip Steer. Down by one the in bottom of the first, Morris was able to tie the game at one. The Cougars got on the board when Dustin Sauter reached on a error by the leftfielder, scoring Eric Terres from thrid base. The score remained the same until the third inning when Ferreira singled scoring Phillips again.

In the fourth inning, the Comets opened the offense scoring nine runs over the next three innings, extending their lead to nine. The Cougar offense was kept in check as they were only allowed three hits. Sauter had one of the Cougar three hits, and also collected both Cougar RBIs. Sauter is now second on the team in RBIs with 13.  

During the second game, Mayville State's offense and pitching fired on all levels. Mayville State scored 18 runs on 19 hits, including nine runs in the seventh inning. Mayville scored in five of the seven innings they played in the second game.

The Cougar offense had a hard time finding the bases in the second game. Morris was unable to reach safely until Devin Waldvogel walked in the bottom of the sixth. The Cougar batter's struck out 17 times in 21 at-bats.

Morris is now 4-21 overall and 4-8 in conference play. Morris will be back in action this weekend (Apr. 21 &  22), when they host conference foe Northland. The Cougars and LumberJacks will play two games this Saturday (Apr. 21) starting at 1:00 p.m. and on Sunday (Apr. 22) with one game on the books with a start time at 1:00 p.m.
