Win Streak Comes to an End

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Cougars (14-8, 7-0 UMAC) dropped a pair of matches on Friday in the opening day of the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The losses ended a streak of eight straight wins.
 
Wisconsin La Crosse ended the Cougars winning streak with a sweep, 29-27, 25-19, 29-27.

Abby Tietz led the way with 13 kills in the match with La Crosse. Wisconsin-La Crosse hit .232 in the match and had three players with 10+ kills. Kaylie Clark finished the match with 23 digs. 
 
In the second match of the day Wisconsin-Steven Point beat the Cougars by a score of 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19. Tietz led the offense with 18 kills while hitting .333, Auch was not too far behind her with 14 kill, while hitting .324. Mandy Allman and Brooke Decker combined for 54 assists in the match. Clark had 24 digs to pace the defense but it was not enough as Stevens Point hit .228 in the win.
 
Morris played from behind in most of the first set falling behind early. UMM pulled within one at 8-7 but Stevens Point extended the lead back to six at 14-9. Morris tried to rally once again, pulling within two at 16-14. It was not enough as Stevens Point went on a 9-4 run to end the set.
 
Set two was extremely tight and for a majority of the set neither team led by more than four. Stevens Point held a 13-9 lead midway through the set before Morris went on a 11-3 run taking a 20-16 lead. Back to back kills at the end of the set gave the Cougars the 25-20 set two win.
 
Stevens Point took the third set thanks to mid set rally after trailing 14-9. The Pointers went on 7-2 run to tie the set at 16. It was tight for the rest of the way but with the score tied at 21, the Pointers scored four straight to take the set 25-21.
 
It was all Stevens Point after the midway point in the fourth set. Trailing by one at 7-8, the Pointers went on a 14-5 run, taking a 21-13 lead. The Cougars could never get closer than four, falling 25-19 in the fourth set.  
 
Tomorrow the Cougars will be back in action at 10 a.m. against Wisconsin-Stout. The tournament wraps up with the Cougars taking on Wisconsin River Falls at 2 p.m.
