School Records Fall in Two Overtime Win

Box Score FULTON, Mo. – It was a record setting day for Minnesota Morris (2-4, 2-3 UMAC) as they picked up the 45-38 win over Westminster (2-4, 2-3 UMAC) in two overtimes. Brendon Foss became the school's all-time leader in touchdown catches on the day after having 13 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns. He now has 29 TD catches in his career, passing his receivers coach, Matt Fragodt in the progress.
 
Westminster got on the board with just three minutes left in the first quarter on 62 yard touchdown run. Foss had a seven yard touchdown catch from Donnie Mavencamp with 13:17 left in the second quarter. That touchdown was the record setting 27th touchdown catch for Foss, breaking the school record.
 
Dalton DeGraffenreid gave Morris the lead with just over five minutes left in half, returning the punt 53 yards for a touchdown. The lead did not last long as the Blue Jays scored two touchdowns in a matter of 18 seconds. The first score came on a 22 yard TD run and then a pick six gave them a 21-12 lead. Caleb McLaren scored on a two yard with 1:48 left in the half to cut into the lead.
 
There was plenty more scoring to come and it came quickly in the third quarter. The Blue Jays extended their lead in the first five minutes of half on a 21 yard run. The scoring then went back and forth in the rest of the third quarter. McLaren had another two yard TD run before Westminster responded with a 14 yard pass to take at 35-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
It was another good fourth quarter for Morris. Foss had a 22 yard catch to pull UMM within three at 35-32. Westminster's Kevin Ludwig connected on a 26 yard field goal taking a 38-32 lead with 8:09 left in the game. Roumy Desir gathered in a 19 yard touchdown catch with 5:04 left to tie the game at 38. The Cougars had a chance to take the one point lead but missed the extra point. Facing a 4th and goal from the nine with just 12 seconds left, Westminster attempted a 25 yard field goal. The Cougars blocked the attempt, keeping the ball game tied.
 
Luke Evans intercepted a pass on the Blue Jays first attempt in the first overtime. Unfortunately, Morris returned the favor, throwing a pick on their first play of their overtime possession. In the second overtime the Cougars looked for their all-time leader in touchdown catches to make a play and he did just that. Foss caught an 11 yard pass and then a 14 yard touchdown pass to give UMM the 45-38 lead after the successful extra point. Westminster drove down to the 11 yard line but a false start moved them back to the 17. On third down the Cougars forced a fumble and recovered it to seal the victory.
 
Morris set a new school record with 412 passing yards on the day. The Blue Jays running back had 230 yards rushing on 31 attempts. The two teams combined for 943 yards of total offense on the day.
