Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars (16-9, 8-0 UMAC) nearly set a school record with a .450 hitting percentage, in a sweep over Northland College (2-20, 0-8 UMAC) on Friday. Minnesota Morris picked up the win; 25-9, 25-4, 25-17 in just 52 minutes in the P.E. Center. The win was number 50 in conference matches for head coach

UMM came out on fire in the first set, taking a 7-1 lead out of the gate. Northland pulled within four on a couple of occasions but got no closer. Morris scored 14 of the final 18 points to take a 25-9 set one win. UMM hit .773 in the first set with 18 kills in 22 attempts and just one error. They also sided-out at an 88 percent clip.
It was all Minnesota Morris in the second set as
Kaylie Clark served 11 straight times helping the Cougars jump out to a 12-1 lead. During the 11-0 run Clark served four straight aces, using the jump serve effectively. Morris again hit over .700 in the set, going through the second set without an error. The Cougars had five aces in the second set.
Morris put out a very different lineup in the third set and had to battle for the win. Leading 4-1, early the Cougars could not keep the LumberJills from rallying to tie the set and take a lead. Minnesota Morris trailed for a majority of the middle portion of the set until a block by
Cori Becker and
Brooke Decker gave UMM the 16-15 lead. It was the first career block assist for Decker. The lead would grow to as much as five thanks to three straight points late. Another three quick points at the end of the set would give UMM the 25-17 set three win.
Minnesota Morris will now take on St. Scholastica tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. Before Firday's match the Cougars honored
Kaylie Clark for breaking the school record in digs.
