Box Score 2 MORRIS, Minn. – In the home opener the Northwestern Eagles (7-13, 2-2 UMAC) swept Minnesota Morris (2-11, 0-4 UMAC) winning 14-7 and 13-1. It was a high scoring first game as the teams combined for 28 hits. In game two, the Eagles starter Andy Peterson held UMM to just one run and four hits in seven innings.
GAME 1
After two scoreless innings Northwestern picked up a run with a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Eagles left the bases loaded but did their damage over the fourth and fifth innings. In the top of the fourth NWC scored four runs on four hits as they chased Morris starter
Logan Orazem. The Cougars scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth.
Kylan Hill hit the team's first homer of the season UMM cut the lead to 5-2.
Northwestern took advantage of three errors by the Cougars to score five runs. In the bottom of the sixth Minnesota Morris scored five runs of their own on four hits.
Neil Arvold walked with the bases loaded to pick up the first run of the inning.
Christian Korlath picked up a two RBI double to center as the Cougars cut the lead to 10-4.
Eric Terres and
Jake Schmitz each had a RBI in the inning bringing Minnesota Morris to within four.
It would be as close as the Cougars would get as Northwestern scored four more in the top of the eighth as they picked up the 14-7 win.
GAME 2
It was a quiet first three innings in the second game as neither team really threatened to score. In the top of the third Northwestern would take command as they sent 15 batters to the plate scoring 12 runs on ten hits and an error.
The Eagles added a run in the top of the fifth to make it 13-0.
Cody Reinke had a RBI single to score
Kyle Grote as the Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. The game would end 13-1 as the Cougars fell to 0-4 in the UMAC.
The Cougars will host St. Scholastica at noon in a UMAC doubleheader in Morris.
