Saints Sweep Cougars

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (2-13, 0-6 UMAC) dropped a pair of games to the St. Scholastica Saints (16-7, 6-0 UMAC) on a beautiful afternoon at Cougar Field. The Saints shut the Cougars down in game one winning 10-0 in eight and then came back from a 4-0 deficit to win 14-6 in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
GAME 1
 
Minnesota Morris could not figure out the Saints starter Kyle Jensen who through seven innings, striking out 12 and carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. Cody Reinke singled with two out in the in seventh but Morris failed to score.
 
St. Scholastica scored in six of the eight innings as they slowly built a 10 run lead. The Saints would score one in the first, two in the second, one in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Jim Paskett did not get hit hard, giving up just one extra base hit going seven and a third, while throwing 165 pitches.
 
GAME 2
 
The Cougars got up early in game two. They took advantage of three Saints errors in the top of the first to score three runs. Kylan Hill had the only hit in the inning by the Cougars did enough damage to lead early. Neil Arvold walked and scored on Jake Schmitz's ground out to second in the bottom of the second, giving Morris the 4-0 lead.
 
The Saints came storming back in the third as they went through their order and scored six runs on five hits. A triple down the line in left gave the Saints a 6-4 lead; one they did not relinquish again. Minnesota Morris scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to draw within one but St. Scholastica would add two in the top of the fifth and four in the sixth to take a commanding 12-6 lead.
 
Morris would not get any closer as they fell 14-6 in the second game. The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow in New Ulm as they take on Martin Luther at 1:00 p.m. On Monday, Minnesota Morris will host Mayville State at 12:00 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
