Knights Too Much for UMM

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (12-13, 7-5 UMAC) fell to a hard hitting Martin Luther (10-10, 7-5 UMAC) team, losing 17-3 on Friday afternoon. The Knights pitching staff held the Cougars to just four hits in seven innings.

Martin Luther struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the first, starting the game with three singles and a walk. Free passes would haunt the Cougars as the Knights drew eight walks, six would end up scoring after drawing a walk. Morris picked up a double from Eric Terres in the bottom of the first and he would score on a sac fly from Kylan Hill. The Cougars tied the game up in the bottom of the second.

Donnie Mavemcamp led off the inning with a homer to left center and then Doug Zimmel singled and scored to tie the game at three. Unfortunately for the Cougars they would be unable to take the lead and the Knights put up some crooked numbers.

The Knights scored three in the top of the third, five in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a commanding 15-3 lead. The Cougars will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they host Martin Luther in a doubleheader at noon. Jake Schmitz failed to get on base for the first time since March 15, snapping a streak of 15 straight games that he had reached base.
