MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (5-9, 1-3 UMAC) baseball will host St. Scholastica (12-6, 4-0 UMAC) this weekend in a three game set at Cougar Field. The series begins with a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. On Saturday a double header begins at noon.
The Cougars are currently 1-3 in the UMAC after playing four conference games earlier this week. The Cougars are in the middle of an eight game home stand, their longest scheduled home stand of the year. Morris will have just one more home UMAC series after this weekend, hosting Northwestern on April 17 and 18.
The Cougars have three players hitting over .300 on the year, led by
Eric Terres who is hitting .429 in 14 games, which ranks second in the UMAC.
Jake Schmitz (.360) and
Jackson Gessell (.341) rank 10
th and 13
th in the conference in batting average. However, the Cougars as a team are hitting .246 which ranks 326
th in the nation.
Starting pitching has been a bright spot for UMM, three of their starters have an ERA under 4.87.
Devin Waldvogel has been great out of the bullpen pitching nine innings and allowing just one run while picking up three saves.
St. Scholastica is holding opponents to .237 hitting on the year, while outscoring teams 128-59 through 18 games this season. In UMAC play they have outscored their four opponents 55-4.
