Weekend Preview

MORRIS, Minn. – This weekend Cougar athletics is in full swing, with six teams competing in ten events. The lone home event is Sunday afternoon when men's soccer will host Augsburg College at 3 p.m.

Volleyball:

The Morris (4-2) volleyball team will head to Minneapolis for four matches at Augsburg College. Morris plays Wisconsin-Eau Claire and #20 St. Thomas on Friday. Match times are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The following day the Cougars play #25 Augsburg at 11 a.m. before finishing up against Wisconsin-La Crosse at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for all matches. Live video will be available when the Cougars play Augsburg.

The Cougars are coming off a tough loss to St. Benedict's on Tuesday night. Morris is 4-2 on the year and will use this weekend as another tune up for conference play. Next week the Cougars get a look at four UMAC teams in the UMAC Preview tournament in St. Paul. All matches next weekend are non-conference matchups.

Thus far this season Marissa Ekness and Abby Tietz have been leading the UMM offense. Katie Reitsma leads the team in digs and setter Brooke Decker leads Morris in assists per set.

Football:

The Cougars (0-1) will travel to Greenville this Saturday in hopes of snapping an 11 game losing streak. If they are successful Morris will even up their season record in 2015. Last weekend Morris fell 40-7 to Hamline in St. Paul.

Morris was able to do some positive things on the offensive side of the ball and rushed for 62 yards, a total that was more than seven of their games in 2014.

Kyle Petermeier had nine catches for 75 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense. Defensively Chandler Erickson had an interception which helped set up the Cougars touchdown on Saturday afternoon.

Men's Soccer:

This weekend Morris (0-4) opens up UMAC play on Saturday at Northwestern before hosting Augsburg in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars are still in search of their first victory of the season and Saturday would be a perfect time for Morris to get that win.

The men kickoff with Northwestern at noon in matchup of two teams picked to finish third in the conference. With the new conference schedule the Cougars will play each team just once except for Bethany Lutheran. This makes each UMAC road match very important.

The offense has had a slow start to the year, scoring just once in four matches. That goal came from Devin White in the season opening match. Cody Christ has 27 saves in three matches this year.

Women's Soccer:

The women's soccer team (0-2) is also looking for their first win of the year when they head on the road to face Northwestern on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. Morris is still looking for their first goal of the 2015 season.

Torri Jordan has shown why she was an All-Region keeper last year by making 22 saves in two matches. She has faced 32 shots in two matches; offensively the Cougars have been able to manage just two shots on goal.

Men's Golf:

On Sunday the Cougars golf team competes in their second meet of the fall season. Morris will battle Bethany Lutheran in a dual meet with a fellow UMAC opponent.

Morris is coming off a fifth place finish at the UMAC Preview last Thursday in Alexandria. Morris and Bethany were separated by just eight strokes that day with the Vikings coming out on top.

Women's Golf:

Morris plays in the BCM Triangle tomorrow in Cannon Falls, Minn. at Oak Summit. It will also be their second chance to get on the golf course this fall for a competition. In addition, The women's golf team will also take on Bethany Lutheran in a dual match on Sunday in Litchfield.

Morris was second in the UMAC Preview last weekend in Alexandria. Bethany Lutheran beat the Cougars by 16 strokes that afternoon.
