Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris baseball team will actually get to play games this weekend, adding a doubleheader on Apr. 2 with Concordia-Moorhead in Mitchell, S.D. at 5:00 p.m.
The Cougar and Cobbers had to find a neutral site to play the twin bill, as they will meet up on the Campus of Dakota State, in Mitchell.
The late addition is a reversal of fortunes for the Cougars, as they have been doing nothing but cancelling and postponing games as of late. When they last were on the field, they were wrapping up their spring trip in Fort Myers, finishing up the week with a close 7-4 loss to Skidmore when their late game rally came up short.
The Cougars sit at 1-7 on the season, but have not played since Mar. 18, and have been confined to the P.E. Center Gym as snow still covers their home field.
Concordia enters the double-dip in much the same situation, having not taken the field since Mar. 20, with their last eight games either postponed or flat-out cancelled. With just three games under their belt, Concordia is currently 3-1 on the year, and has scored 13 or more runs in two of their three wins.
When they were in the field, the Cougar offense clicked, led by Drew Lundquist (North Branch, Minn.) who was named UMAC Player of the Week after the first eight games. Lundquist leads Morris with a .500 average, including a team high 14 hits. Dustin Sauter (Morris, Minn.), Austin Pinke (St. James, Minn.), Ian Olson (Granite Falls, Minn.) and Josh Ledin (Big Lake, Minn.) are all hitting above the .300 mark, while Sauter has hit safely in every game this season.
After two weeks off, Cougar baseball will look to get back in the win column on Apr. 2 against MIAC foe, Concordia-Moorhead.
