Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris baseball team played their third and final game with Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) leading St. Scholastica today (Apr. 30), falling 16-1.

Things unraveled early for Morris (8-15, 7-6), as St. Scholastica (26-4, 16-1) scored four runs – three earned – in the first, with two coming off a Saint one-out homer.

Cougar starter Jake Johnson (Stanchfield, Minn.) settled down to strikeout the side in the second, charting all three of his K's for the game. He would not make it past the first out of the third, though, pitching just 2.1 innings on the day. He finished allowing 11 runs, but only eight earned as the Saints took advantage of Cougar miscues.

Neil Arvold (Blaine, Minn.) came in to relive Johnson, pitching the final two outs of the inning on his way to 1.2 innings on the day.

The Saints pounded out just five hits in the third, but had seven runners cross the plate, using the benefit of the third of the Cougars' five errors on the game.

For the second straight game the Cougars struggled in the field, also making five in the second game yesterday. During their four-game winning streak heading into the Saint series, the Cougars made just four total fielding errors, including none in the win over Northwestern on Apr. 17.

However, in the three games with St. Scholastica, Morris had a total of 12, their most of any three-game stretch this season.

After Arvold, Kyle Bruns (Brandon, Minn.) made his first appearance of the year, throwing two hitless innings through the fifth and sixth. Finally Nate Haseman (Butterfield, Minn.) came in to pitch the seventh before the game was called as the wind and rain became too much to handle.

After being held scoreless for 13 straight innings in the series, the Cougars got on the board with one in the sixth. After Ian Olson doubled, Jordan Gegen singled up the middle to bring Olson home for his team leading 18th run.

Gegen led the Cougars with two hits on the day, while Olson was joined by Drew Lundquist as the only players to hit safely in all three games. Lindquist's hit streak how stands at 15 games.

Next up the Cougars head to Martin Luther for a tripleheader on May 3, before closing out the regualar season at home with three games againt Bethany Lutheran on May 6 & 7.
