Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris baseball team dropped a pair of games against the Northland Lumberjacks today (Apr. 22), by scores of 9-2, and 13-5 respectively. The woes for the Cougars continue as they have dropped 15 out of the past 16 games.

The Cougars and Lumberjacks played two games today instead of the originally planned one nine inning game that was previously scheduled, due to inclement weather the teams agreed to push the game back to today. The first game was the rescheduled seven inning game, and the second was the nine inning game.

Logan Orazem took the mound for Morris is in the first game, lasting 5.2 innings. The Lumberjacks were able to get to Orazem and the Cougars early in the game as they scored six of their nine runs in the first inning. The Cougars did not get on the board until the bottom of the third inning when Mike McGill reached base on a fielder's choice. Nick Perrotte scored on the play, giving the Cougars their first run.

Dustin Sauter had a great day at the plate, accounting for one third of the total Cougar hits. Sauter went three for four with one RBI. Two of the three hits for Sauter were doubles. The lone RBI for Sauter came in the bottom of the seventh with the Cougars trailing 9-1. Sauter doubled scoring Eric Terres.

In the second game Jordan Gegen took the mound, only lasting 4.2 innings, and surrendering seven earned runs. The Lumberjacks scored early and often again as they did in the first game. Northland scored at least once in six innings and at least three times in three different innings.

Perrotte was the high point of the Cougar offense as he went 3-for-4, including a triple, with three RBI. Perrotte is still continuing his outstanding season, as now leads the team in average (.386), hits (34), triples (1), walks (13), and on-base percentage (.466).

Sauter collected two more hits, as he finished the day all in all with a total of five.

Kylan Hill was able to get some work in as he threw 2.1 innings of shutout baseball. Hill only allowed three hits and struck out two of the 11 batters he faced.

Morris was able to put up five runs on the board, but it was not enough as they fell by a score of 13-5.

The team is currently 4-25 overall, and 4-11 in conference play. The Cougars will be back in action this Wednesday ( April 25), when they host MIAC team Hamline for one nine inning game starting at 2:30 p.m.
