Cougars Rush Past Highlanders

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (3-7, 3-6 UMAC) ended the season in style, taking care of MacMurray (0-10, 0-9 UMAC) 38-7 thanks to 251 yards rushing. It was the most rushing yards in a game since October 15, 2011 against Eureka. Morris held the ball for over 42 minutes in the game.
 
The Cougars received the opening kickoff and took the ball on a 14 play 48 yard drive that ate up 7:57 on the clock. They threw just two passes on the drive, establishing the run game early. Caleb McLaren finished the drive with a one yard touchdown run. The defense forced a three and out and the offense went back on the attack. Andrew Fellows finished off an eight play drive with a four yard touchdown run. UMM had the ball for over 13 minutes in the first quarter.
 
Midway through the second quarter Brendon Foss caught his 32nd touchdown pass in his career, which will be the new school record for most touchdown catches in a career. MacMurray had a little bit of a drive going following the touchdown but Luke Evans put a stop to that, picking off a screen pass and going 50 yards for a score. The Minnesota Morris defense forced three turnovers in the first half.
 
Late in the third quarter Dustin Spohn had a six yard touchdown run after the Cougars' Danny Kernan blocked a punt. Cam Adel pushed the lead to 38 with a 20 yard field goal with 10:19 left in the fourth. The Highlanders ended the Cougars attempt for a shutout on the next drive but it was too late. Minnesota Morris had the ball for 11:35 in the final quarter of play.
 
Fellows, Spohn and Antwar Ashley were the three headed rushing attack for Morris on the afternoon. Spohn finished the day with 95 rushing yards on 13 carries. Fellows had 90 yards on 20 carries and Ashley had 78 yards on 21 carries. The defense held MacMurray to just 172 yards of total offense.

Hickman Tackle
 
Cody Hickman broke the school record for most tackles in a single season after 16 tackles, two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss on Saturday. He finishes the season with 140 tackles. Geoffery Schumacher also had 16 tackles on the day, including a half sack and one tackle for a loss. Alex Rohan had a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
