Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. – The Cougars (2-9, 0-2 UMAC) fell twice on Friday to the Bethany Lutheran Vikings (6-10, 2-0 UMAC) by the scores of 12-0 and 8-3. Minnesota Morris was shut down in the first game, as they picked up two hits. In the second game, BLC scored five early runs to take advantage, before scoring three late to secure the win. These two teams will meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Mankato.
GAME 1
The Vikings got a complete game from Cory Ferm, as he allowed just two hits over seven innings, walking three.
Eric Terres and
Jason Hodson were the only Cougars to pick up base hits in the game, both singles. Despite five batters reaching base for Morris, they could not get a runner past first.
Bethany Lutheran would score a run in the top of the second and third to take an early 2-0 lead. They would extend that lead in the fifth and sixth innings picking a pair of runs in each. A six run top of the seventh would put the game out of reach as the game ended 12-0 after seven.
GAME 2
Minnesota Morris fell behind early in the second game as the Vikings pushed across two runs in the first and three in the second, giving them a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, UMM would put together a rally and get back in the game.
Reid Thomas singled to center with one out but was cut down as
Dalton DeGraffenreid reached on a fielder's choice. Terres would then double, his first extra-base hit of the year, to put runners on second and third for
Jake Schmitz. Schmitz delivered lining a ball down the left line for a double scoring both DeGraffenreid and Terres.
The Cougars would pull to within one in the bottom of the sixth as
Kylan Hill reached on a leadoff double to right center. He moved up to third on a ground out to second and scored on
Kyle Grote's sac fly to center. Unfortunately the Cougars could muster just two more hits in the final three innings and the Vikings added three more runs to pad their lead. The final score would be 8-3 as BLC's bullpen came through.
Terres is now riding a five game hitting streak for the Cougars, during those games he is 7-15 from the plate with three runs scored and three RBI.
