Cougars Sweep Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (3-17, 2-8 UMAC) swept Crown College (1-18, 1-19 UMAC) on Thursday afternoon in Morris. The Cougars won 17-5 in game one and 19-9 in game two. It was the first wins for the Cougars in the UMAC this season.
 
GAME 1
 
The Cougars served as the visitors in the game one and used it to jump out to an early lead. Morris scored two runs in the first thanks to a two out rally. Cody Reinke started the rally with a single to short. Kylan Hill doubled him home on the next pitch. Hill would score on a passed ball before the inning ended. Minnesota Morris added three more in the top of the second thanks to a two run inside the park homer by Dalton DeGraffenreid.
 
North Central picked up a run in the bottom of the first but Morris responded with five runs thanks to three errors. DeGraffenreid had a three run double to highlight the inning for the Cougars. DeGraffenreid would then score on a wild pitch. The Rams would get a run back in the fourth but yet again the Cougars had a response. Morris would push across four more runs in the top of the fifth. Cody Reinke had a two run double down the line in left with one out to make it 13-2. NCU again scored a run in the bottom half of the inning but could never close the gap. Minnesota Morris added three runs in the top of the sixth making it 17-3. The Rams would score a run in the sixth and seventh but UMM picked up the 17-5 win.
 
DeGraffenreid finished the season 4-5 with six RBI and four runs scored. Cody Reinke finished the game 5-6 with three RBI and two runs. Jake Schmitz had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
 
GAME 2
 
The Minnesota Morris bats were alive in game two as well, racking up 19 runs and 19 hits. The Rams made it a game early. They scored the first three runs of the game in the top of the first jumping on the Cougars. Morris responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of an error. Cody Reinke, Kylan Hill and Kyle Grote all had a RBI in the inning.
 
The Rams came right back with three runs in the top of the second taking back their lead. That lead did not last long as Morris put up three runs to tie the game back up. Terres, Schmitz and Reinke had the RBI's in the inning. Minnesota Morris would not let the Rams lead again and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Hill gave the Cougars the lead, driving in Schmitz.
 
The Cougars exploded for five runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to take an18-9 lead. The rallies did not feature any multiple RBI hits as UMM slowly built the lead. North Central scored three runs in the middle of the rallies but they could not keep pace with the Cougars. The game would end in the seventh as Devon Waldvogel singled home the game ending run.
 
Minnesota Morris will now host Northland tomorrow in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. at Cougar Field.
