MORRIS, Minn. – For the eighth straight time the Minnesota Morris (13-5-2) men's soccer team will take on St. Scholastica (19-2) in the UMAC Championship match. The two teams will meet in Duluth on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Saints have been able to win the last two since Morris went into Duluth and won the 2011 UMAC Championship match. On the year CSS has been able to beat the Cougars by a three goal margin both times.
Scholastica will be without their fourth leading scorer who will have to sit out after receiving a red card in the UAMC semi-final. The Saints still have a trio of fifty point scorers on their roster and the Cougars defense will have to do their best to help goalkeeper
Cody Christ protect the UMM net on Saturday afternoon. Currently St. Scholastica ranks fifth in the latest NSCAA North Region Poll.
Offensively the Cougars have been able to find scoring from all over the field and roster in 2014. Minnesota Morris has had 16 different players score a goal this season and 20 players have at least one point.
The Cougars got off to a good start against the Saints in their last match, taking an early 1-0 lead. Another quick start is something the Cougars will hope to achieve on Saturday afternoon. Last year the Cougars also got off to a quick start in the UMAC Championship but could not hold onto the lead. Morris will try to reverse that trend and make another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
