MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars will step into the batter's box for the first time in 2014 as they kick off their spring trip with a doubleheader against Mitchell College, at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The team will play ten games in six days in Fort Myers, Florida.
Last season the Cougars went 1-6 on their spring trip, playing just two doubleheaders during the week. This year the team will play both regional and non-regional games during a set of five doubleheaders. After playing Mitchell on Monday they will take on Finlandia the following day before a day off. On Thursday, they take on Wisconsin Lutheran, kicking off a stretch of six games in three days. They finish the weekend up with doubleheaders against Lakeland College and Wisconsin-Stout.
Second year coach
Grant Harding has brought in a lot of new, young talent which will team up with a squad full of returners from last season. All-Conference players
Eric Terres and
Kylan Hill will hope to help the Cougars improve from a five win season in 2013.
Pitching depth was an issue for Morris last season because of all the back-to-back games occurring due to weather. Harding made sure he worked hard in recruiting this offseason to help the Cougars succeed. The team is more prepared to deal with those issues this season. The depth will be tested during the spring trip this week.
