Cougars Victorious During Weekend Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 MORRIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris had a busy weekend on various fields of play. The softball team kept rolling and clinched a spot in the UMAC Tournament thanks to finishing the season on a nine game winning streak. They will be the two seed in the tournament this weekend in Duluth. On Saturday they beat Bethany Lutheran 11-1 and 4-1 to cap off the regular season in style. Both Molly Olson and Sam Hanson extended their hitting streak to 24 and 20 games respectively. Gina Downie is on a current nine game hitting streak.
 
Women's tennis is back in the UMAC Tournament after going 2-0 this weekend. They will take on St. Scholastica this afternoon and Northwestern tomorrow to wrap up the regular season. They are on a five match winning streak after taking care of North Central 9-0 and Martin Luther 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Men's tennis is fighting for a spot in the UMAC Tournament and could get some much needed help with one more victory this season. The team was 2-0 last Saturday, beating North Central 5-3 and beating Martin Luther 5-4. They have now won three straight matches.
 
Baseball is also in the middle of a playoff push with seven games left in the season. They have a tripleheader at Bethany Lutheran on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. before traveling to St. Scholastica this weekend. They split with Martin Luther on Saturday afternoon dropping the first game 8-0 before winning the final game of the series 11-3.
 
Linda Keller was fourth this weekend in 1500m at the Drake Alternative. Kaitlin Kamm was the high jump champion and was fifth in the 100m hurdles. Jenny LaRoque took third in high jump. Tori Holt was sixth in the shot put.
 
On the men's side, Chalmer Combellick was second in the 800m run, just missing out on taking the race. Nathan Harder was the top college finisher in the 110m hurdles, taking second by just .03 seconds. Ryan DeRoeck was third in the 400m hurdles. Alex Ukkelburg was sixth in the javelin and Dalton DeGraffenreid was seventh in the pole vault.
