Saints Take Down Cougars

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (13-15, 8-7 UMAC) could not keep up with the St. Scholastica (22-10, 14-1) bats on Friday, falling 18-5 in the first game of the three game series. Scott Peterson had two hits and increased his batting average to .302 on the year. St Scholastica is the home team in the series because it was supposed to be played in Duluth.

The Saints struck early and often, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. They would add two more in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to five. Morris cut the lead to four in the top of the third but CSS put the game away in the bottom of the third. Scholastica took advantage of a couple UMM errors to score nine runs, seven unearned in the bottom of the inning, taking a 14-1 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Morris plated three runs. Cody Reinke doubled down the left field line to score Eric Terres. Kylan Hill then singled to left as Schmitz and Reinke scored.  St. Scholastica responded with three runs of their own, increasing their lead back to 13. Each team added a run in the sixth making the final score 18-5.

The two teams are back at it tomorrow at noon, kicking off a doubleheader. Tomorrow is senior day for the Cougars.
