Box Score MORRIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris Cougars (1-1) found a way to win despite being outshot 24-6 on the afternoon, thanks to a penalty in the 105th minute.
Shingo Yamane stepped to the spot confidently and sent the ball to lower right corner giving Morris a 1-0 win over Central College (0-2) in the second overtime.
The games was a back and forth contest early on as both teams looked to try and gain some control. Central had the better of chances in the first half but could not find a way to put the ball in the back of the net.
Cody Christ made two saves in the first half to keep the game tied.
The Dutch had more scoring chances in the second half as well but did not control the run of play until the midway point of the second half. Despite being in control of the match they could not break through for a game tying goal. Minnesota Morris did not have a shot on goal in the second half but did threaten on a few occasions to push across a goal.
Central College had a few golden chances later in the second half but Christ was big for the Cougars, keeping them in the game with a few nice saves. The Cougars nearly scored as time expired in the second half but the shot went over the crossbar and the game went into overtime.
In the first overtime both teams threatened to score, doing most of the work towards the end of the period but once again could not capitalize on their efforts. Early on in the second overtime Aleksander Glavas nearly scored off a set piece for Central but Christ got a hand on the ball as it was bending underneath the cross bar and pushed it over. Just a couple minutes later
Austin Keller got ran over in the box trying to track down a cross and the referee issues a penalty kick for the Cougars. That is when Yamane stepped up and calmly lifted the Cougars to victory.
