MORRIS, Minn. – The men's and women' soccer teams head to Mankato this afternoon to take on Bethany Lutheran in conference doubleheader. The men play at 2 p.m. followed by the women at 4:15 p.m. Women's volleyball is also on the road today, playing Concordia-Moorhead at 7 p.m.
MENS SOCCER
The men's team (2-7, 2-1 UMAC) is looking to pick up their first road win of the season when they travel to a Bethany team in search of their second UMAC win of the year.
The Vikings (1-6-2, 1-2-1 UMAC) are coming off a 7-0 loss to Wisconsin-Superior this past Saturday. Currently BLC is in sixth place through four conference games. Today's match marks the halfway point in the UMAC season for the Vikings.
Morris is one of two teams at 2-1 in the conference, tied with Wisconsin-Superior at the moment. The Cougars need to pick up as many wins as possible in hopes to clinch a home playoff game later in the season. This is the first of two matches with the Vikings in conference play, the only team they play twice in the conference schedule.
WOMENS SOCCER
The women find themselves looking up at Bethany (5-3-2, 3-0-1 UMAC) in the conference standings. The Vikings are the only unbeaten team in the UMAC, their match against Morris is the first against a team with a UMAC record over .500 this season. Their three wins have come against teams with a combined 2-10 record in the conference. They did lose 4-1 to Northwestern in non-conference matchup this season.
The Cougars (3-3, 2-1 UMAC) can pull within a half a game of the Vikings with a victory on Tuesday.
Molly Hancuh comes into the match having scored a goal in four straight matches. She is second in the conference in goals.
VOLLEYBALL
Morris (9-7, 1-0 UMAC) is looking for their fourth win over a MIAC team this season when they face a Concordia-Moorhead squad that is 9-3 on the season and have three sweeps against fellow MIAC teams. Like the Cougars, they have one win over an AVCA Top-25 team this season. The Cobbers swept #19 Augsburg last week.
The storyline in the Cougars wins this season seem to center around setter
Brooke Decker finding
Marissa Ekness and
Abby Tietz as often as possible. That tandem has combined for 1189 of the Cougars 2242 attacks. Ekness has 782 attacks this season, before last week she led the country in attacks.
If the Cougars can hit over .210 as a team they are currently 8-0, if they fail to get to that mark their record is 1-7.
