JoAnn Thompson played on the 1979 Minn-Kota Conference women's basketball champions and the 1980 Division III state champions, a team that then advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Thompson was a four-year starter and twice was named to the all-conference team. She ranks among the top 10 in career scoring at Minnesota Morris with 1,265 points.
